OUR KITCHEN BEFORE AND AFTER

AFTER: LOOK YOU CAN SEE THROUGH THE WINDOWS NOW!
I JUST RECENTLY GOT THIS BLACK CAST IRON SINK AND NEW FAUCET, AND I LOVE IT!

MY PLAN EVENTUALLY IS TO RE-DO THE ISLAND. I WOULD LIKE EITHER BLACK SOAPSTONE OR CARRERA MARBLE WITH A BLACK BASE SURROUND. LOTS OF DETAILING. MAYBE BEADED BOARD, CORBELS? I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO INCORPORATE A BEVERAGE FRIDGE ON THE END YOU SEE HERE WITH A GLASS DOOR FOR THE KIDS' DRINKS.

THIS GIVES YOU A GOOD SHOT OF THE SKYLIGHT AREA. LAYLA AT THE LETTERED COTTAGE GAVE ME THE IDEA TO DO THE WORDING, AND I AM SO GLAD I DID IT. TO ME, IT IS THE HIGHTLIGHT OF THE KITCHEN! WE HAVE LOTS OF COVE LIGHTS UP THERE SO EVEN AT NIGHT IT IS BRIGHT!

THIS IS THE AREA WHERE THE FREESTANDING STOVE USED TO BE. AS YOU CAN SEE, MUCH MORE FUNCTIONAL NOW!

OUR KITCHEN BEFORE, JULY 1998

FIRST THINGS FIRST, DEMO!

THIS IS WHERE THE FREESTANDING STOVE USED TO STAND. NOW IT IS A LITTLE NICHE AND TO THE LEFT OF IT IS THE PANTRY

WOW, LOOK AT THOSE APPLIANCES! THE DISHWASHER GOT A NEW HOME ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SINK

CUTTING A HOLE IN THE CEILING TO PUT IN A HUGE SKYLIGHT! I RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS IN THE SUMMER MONTHS!

I REMEMBER HAULING AWAY LOADS AND LOADS OF BRICK AND SOOT FROM THE OLD STOVE, 5 MONTHS PREGNANT! :) LOOK AT THE UGLY POPCORN CEILING!

SAY HELLO TO MY HUSBAND AND FATHER IN LAW, UP THERE ON THE ROOF!

NEW WINDOW OVER THE KITCHEN SINK, NEW LIGHTING, AND DRYWALL

WHAT IS THERE TO SAY ABOUT THIS PICTURE? THE WORD HIDEOUS COMES TO MIND!

LOOK AT THAT BEAUTY OF A LIGHT FIXTURE! AND, IT WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE WHOLE KITCHEN! CHECK OUT THE WINDOW TOO! IT WAS SO CLOUDED OVER YOU COULDN'T EVEN SEE THROUGH IT!

WHAT WAS I THINKING WITH THAT LITTLE BIT OF FAKE GREENERY ON TOP OF THE CABINET LIKE THAT?

ANOTHER LOVELY SHOT OF THE BEFORE

THE KITCHEN WAS THE FIRST ROOM WE TACKLED WHEN WE MOVED IN HERE IN 1998. I WAS 4 MONTHS PREGNANT WITH SAVANNAH. ALL THE CABINETS WERE MIX AND MATCH FROM GARAGE SALES. THE FLOOR WAS LINOLEUM AND WARPED AND THE FLOOR WASN'T EVEN LEVEL. YOU COULD STICK A KNIFE THOUGH THE CEILING. 3 DIFF. FINISHES WERE ON THE WALLS, AND THERE WAS A FREE STANDING UGLY STOVE THAT STUCK OUT IN THE MIDDLE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT ALL HAD TO GO. THE FIRST THING WE DID WAS OPEN UP THE ROOF AND PUT A SKYLIGHT IN. OUR NEIGHBORS GAVE US A GREAT DEAL ON ONE BECAUSE THAT WAS THEIR BUSINESS. ALL THE CABINETS ARE MAPLE AND CAME STRAIGHT OFF THE SHELVES AT HOME DEPOT. WE PUT IN RUSTIC PINE FLOORING, WHICH I LOVE, BUT MY HUSBAND NOT SO MUCH. WE MAY BE REPLACING THOSE SOON. I THINK WE RE-DID THE WHOLE KITCHEN FOR $7,000.00 AT THE TIME. OVER THE YEARS WE HAVE UPGRADED APPLIANCES TO STAINLESS STEEL, AND SO ON, BUT STILL, EVERYTHING WAS DONE ON A BUDGET!
